Botanical Gardens
The Display Gardens at Baywood Greens are a 'must see' destination for garden enthusiasts on the Delmarva Peninsula. The garden's mission is to develop a visually dramatic landscape providing inspiration to visitors and to promote and conserve the natural beauty of the coastal plain. The impact of unleashed creativity with color is the guiding principle at the gardens.
Over thirty acres of gardens are maintained throughout the 500 acre property and include naturalized wetlands and ponds, woodland parks, mixed borders, and extensive seasonal displays. The most intensive plantings are concentrated near the clubhouse highlighted by an English garden, a wedding garden, a tropical and texture garden and a tiered waterfall and pond feature. The seasonal displays begin in spring with a grand tulip and bulb display. The grounds are in their glory by late summer when massive annual and tropical borders create an explosion of color throughout the property. The natural beauty of the mid-Atlantic dominates in the fall and the year culminates with a dazzling Christmas display illuminating the gardens with over 100,000 lights.
The gardens near the clubhouse and in the surrounding residential community are free and open to the public. Many views of the golf course are visible from public areas but only golfers receive the ultimate tour by viewing the entire property while playing. Visitors can easily spend one to two hours wandering the gardens at a leisurely pace. A package deal including lunch and a guided tour is available for groups between 10-25 people. For more information on guided tours please call the horticulture office at 302-947-9836 ext. 202.
