Coastal Bike Trails of Southern Delaware

Posted by Baywood Blog Team

With summer temperatures still sticking around and cold weather nowhere in sight, there is still plenty of time this fall to explore Southern Delaware by bike! Delaware has been named the 3rd Most Bike Friendly State in the US, according to the League of American Bicyclists. If you own or rent a home at Baywood Greens, you are within close proximity to some of the best trails in Southern Delaware! Here are a few of our favorite trails:

Assawoman Canal Trail

This easy 1-mile trail winds around the west bank of the Assawoman Canal, right off Route 26. With parking and restrooms at the parking lot, this short trail is perfect for the whole family!

Prickly Pear Trail

Located at Delaware Seashore State Park’s Fresh Pond area, this 3.5-mile loop is an easy trail cutting through the forest and open meadows. Cyclists can even catch a view of the Indian River Bay!

Junction and Breakwater Trail

For the more experienced riders, this 6.4 mile trail offers the best of Southern Delaware nature! Ride through the pines of Cape Henlopen State Park and see some of Delaware’s wetlands along the way.

Gordons Pond Trail

Also located in Cape Henlopen State Park, the Gordons Pond Trail takes you on 3.2 miles of marshes and forest. The trail is popular with bird watchers, so be sure to keep an eye out for osprey nests and bald eagles!

Mispillion River Greenway

This 1.8-mile trail goes right through historic downtown Milford, and offers great views of the Mispillion River! Enjoy scenic views of the waterway and historic buildings as you cruise through Milford.
