Getting Your Home Ready For Winter
The leaves are starting to fall from the trees and temperatures are getting cooler day by day. That can only mean one thing: winter is coming! Preparing for the season now can go a long way to ensure that you’ll have a comfortable winter. We have 4 things that you should add to your to-do list to get your home ready for winter.
Clean Your Gutters – This is probably the most important thing you need to do before the winter comes. Clogged gutters could cause a flood in your home, which will lead to expensive repairs. Tip: Wait until all the leaves have fallen from the trees and you’ll only have to do it once!
Get Water Away From Your House – Even with your gutters clean, the water that drains down needs to collect somewhere. Make sure that you have a solid channel for the water to travel down that is both away from your home and able to dissipate. This will help you avoid dangerous ice patches that could harm your home or your yard.
Don’t Rake Your Leaves – This seems counter intuitive but there’s a very good reason for it! Instead of racking your leaves, just run them over with a mulching lawn mower. Not only will it get rid of your leaf problem but it will also add valuable organic material to your soil!
Sweep Your Chimney – If you have a fireplace in your Baywood Greens home, make sure to take good care of it! Fireplaces should be cleaned on an annual basis to prevent them from backing up and causing smoke or fire to enter your home! It’s probably best to hire a chimney sweep to do this to make sure it’s done properly.
