Answering Your Questions About New Construction Homes
If you live in Baywood Greens or have visited our community recently, you may have noticed the new homes being built as our community continues to grow and become better than ever! These homes are being built by Christopher Companies, an award-winning builder with communities in the D.C. metro area and our very own Sussex County.
Debbie Rosenstein, vice president of sales and marketing at Christopher Companies, recently participated in a Q&A session with the Washington Post, answering reader questions about newly constructed homes. So if you’ve ever considered buying a newly constructed home, or are just curious about key differences between new construction and pre-owned homes, read on to learn some of the highlights of the session:
- Get the most bang for your buck. The decision to buy a new home, as opposed to an existing home, is ideal for receiving and maintaining value in the long run, according to Rosenstein. This is because of the brand-new features and the saving that will occur as a result of warranties and lower energy bills that are associated with newly built homes. Rosenstein points out that the features and livability of a new home also add value in the long haul.
- A focus on open concepts. Generally, new homes will offer an open floor plan, since this is incredibly popular with buyers. A focus on open concepts can be seen throughout new homes, but especially from the kitchen to a casual family room area.
- On trend. In addition to open floor concepts, there are a variety of other trends in the home building industry. New hardwood and new countertop materials, as well as diverse lighting fixtures are increasingly popular, and stainless steel appliances are viewed as more of a standard now than an upgrade. Visually interesting kitchen cabinets – such as those with glass, or cabinets that are staggered - are increasingly popular. Another kitchen trend that's gaining popularity is backsplash.
- Advantages. There are many advantages associated with new homes, including newer operating systems and appliances, builder warranties, closing cost assistance and better energy ratings that will save money on bills over time.
